A small-group experience for women navigating the empty nest and redefining what’s next.
The path to an empty nest starts long before the dorm move-in or college send-off. It begins quietly ~ often around middle school ~ as our children begin stretching their wings while still sheltered by ours. Over time, they grow more independent until one day, they step fully into lives of their own.
For some, the transition is marked by physical distance.
For others, it happens even while everyone is still under the same roof ~ a subtle emotional shift that signals a new season has begun.
The change can still take us by surprise.
We notice the signs ~ senior portraits, college emails, campus tours ~ yet nothing quite prepares us for how different life feels once they begin to launch.
I was blindsided.
Despite knowing this season would arrive, I didn’t fully grasp how profoundly it would affect me. My biggest shift was in identity ~ quietly wondering, Who am I outside of being “Moo” or “Mumzie,” as my kids affectionately call me?
I had a fulfilling career and plenty of accomplishments, but nothing carried the same depth of meaning ~ that capital-P Purpose ~ that motherhood had held.
That sense of loss became a turning point.
It nudged me toward something I had dreamed about for decades: studying applied positive psychology and supporting women as they rediscover themselves in midlife.
I immersed myself in the research around empty nesting ~ a well-documented life transition ~ and conducted my own qualitative study within a Facebook community of nearly 300,000 empty nesters. What emerged were six common challenges women face during this season, each experienced differently, yet woven with strikingly similar themes.
These findings ~ combined with my lived experience ~ became the foundation for Flourishing Beyond the Nest.
We all have should haves.
And if you’ve managed to avoid them ~ please, share your secret.
If I could do it all over again, I would have sought out women with what I call rearview-mirror wisdom ~ those who have traveled this road ahead of me, complete with detours, speed bumps, and unexpected moments of joy that emerge once children begin to fly the nest, whether physically or emotionally.
This journey isn’t linear. It’s beautifully messy.
Some days they’re out.
The next, they’re back.
You may have one foot still rooted in parenting and the other stepping into your next chapter.
It’s complex. It’s layered.
And it’s rich with opportunity for growth, meaning, and self-discovery.

Flourishing Beyond the Nest is an 8-week small-group program designed around the six common challenges that often arise during the empty-nest transition.
Each week we weave together two essential elements:
~ Connection
A supportive small-group circle where we share openly and authentically in a safe, sacred space — without comparison or pressure.
~ Growth
An interactive workshop introducing evidence-based positive psychology tools tailored to each week’s theme.
You’ll receive a thoughtfully designed workbook with gentle invitations to reflect before we gather, guided exercises during our sessions, and supportive reflections and practices to explore afterward ~ all created to deepen insight, not add pressure.
To be clear ~ positive psychology is not “happiology.”
It recognizes that we are a full tapestry of emotions ~ joy, sadness, excitement, grief ~ none good or bad. They simply are.
While traditional therapy often focuses on healing what’s unresolved from the past, positive psychology centers on what helps us flourish in the present and grow into the future. It invites us to move north of neutral ~ toward greater well-being, meaning, and vitality.
The program is grounded in the PERMA-V model, which supports:
These tools extend far beyond parenting and can be applied across every area and season of life.
Wherever you are in your nesting journey, this space may be for you.
